When it came to how Obama won the Presidential Election, there were many facctors which led to his victory. First of all he guranteed that he was the best candidate to handle the American’s struggling econonmy. He strongly disapproved former President Bush and he promised postive changes (which is what everyone wants). But another important factor which led to the title “President” Obama, was his use of technology to reach out to all of the youth of this generation. Since this generation is so technologically advanced, it was a smart move for Obama to use technology to snag the votes of all the young voters.
At one glance, when we go to www.barackobama.com, his site is very colourful using light blue and white. As silly as it sounds, an organized, simple, and good-looking website will cause people who stumble upon it, to stay. On his site, he presents photos, biographies, and get this, tweleve different ringtones! His website also has crazy toggling effects! Simple things like this makes his website much more interesting.
Since music is such a big part of a teenagers life, Obama was able to produce “Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement.” This features the famous Youtube song, “Yes We Can” which was produced by Will.I.Am. The song and video features various artists including: Common, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, Nick Canon,Nicole Scherzinger, and many others. When you think about it, many youths look up to these celebrities and if these celebrities associate themselves and promote with Obama, the youth would be bound to support Obama along with their following idol. Other hit songs produced by Will.I.Am in support of Obama are “Here I Come” and “We Are The Ones.” The use of music was a very smart and creative way to attract youth towards Obama.
The final thing Obama used to attract his young voters is communication through internet. Obama uses many websites to communicate to his fans, but the big ones are Youtube and Facebook. Through Facebook, Obama got millions of fans, not just in America, but all over the world. Youtube is site that is consistenly used all over the world by all different people, and Obama talks to all these people by personally doing video blogs. I believe the use of Youtube via songs, videos, and spoofs was the biggest factor in Obama’s appeal to the techology based generation.
All in all, Obama was very creative by using technology to “spread his propaganda.” He used songs, mobile applications, blogging and vlogging to appeal to the young the generation. Obama did in fact had many things going for him which would lead to his electoral and his use of technolgy boosted his chances and maybe even guranteed his title as “President.”
